To investigate the effect of carbon equivalent number (CEN) on weld nugget formation and joint performance, we performed experiments using D800 steel and AISI 1080 steel.
We prepared welded joints with different CEN values and examined the weld nugget formation and joint performance. Our results show that the CEN significantly affects the weld nugget formation of D800 steel and AISI 1080 steel joints.
We observed that as the CEN increased, the weld nugget size decreased. This is because high-CEN materials have excellent hardenability and are more prone to cracking during welding. Additionally, we found that joint performance decreased as the CEN increased. High-CEN materials have a higher risk of forming brittle microstructures that can lead to weld failure.
In conclusion, our study demonstrates that the CEN significantly affects the weld nugget formation and joint performance of D800 steel and AISI 1080 steel joints. Considering the CEN when selecting welding parameters and materials for welding applications is essential. By understanding the effect of CEN on weld nugget formation and joint performance, we can improve the quality and reliability of welded joints.
